Christian Doctrine
The course will seek to give the student a unified view
of Christian doctrine as it is coherently expressed in Protestant
Evangelicalism.
The course will cover:
The Bible |
 |
Revelation, inspiration, authority, infallibility, inerrancy,
interpretation. Separate lectures are given on the canon
of Scripture, textual criticism and Bible translations. |
God |
|
His being and attributes, His plan and works, the Trinity,
the Christological controversies, the Holy Spirit. |
Humanity and Sin |
|
The origin, nature and original state of the human race,
the fall and its consequences, the nature of sin. |
Salvation |
|
The Person and Work of Christ. Special
attention is given to the doctrine of the Atonement.
The application of Christ's work by the Spirit is considered
including regeneration, repentance and faith, union with
Christ, justification, adoption, sanctification, the
Christian life. |
The Church |
|
Its nature, function, mission, organisation, ordinances,
revival. On the question of baptism and church polity representatives
from different church traditions are called on to widen
the scope of the course and to remove any suspicion of
partiality in these controverted areas. |
The Future |
|
The intermediate state, the second advent, resurrection,
judgement, eternal punishment, glory. |
